The year 2025 is interesting with various big movies which are lining up to hit the big screens. 2024 wasn’t a good year for the Cinema as several big movies struggled to make significant impact and struggled to strike a chord with the audience.
2023 v/s 2024:
Unlike 2023, which saw movies making it big at Box office: like Animal, Jawan and Gadar 2. In 2024, Raj-Kumar Rao starrer Stree 2 is only the movie which emerged as highest-grossing film. There were expectations from Hrithik Roshan starrer Fighter however it escaped the mind of the people as quick as it could. Even the hyped-up clash of Bhool-Bhulaiya v/s Singham Again couldn’t convince the audience.
Nevertheless, every new-year brings hope and 2025 is a huge year for Indian cinema with several movies will be hitting the screen in following months. So, get-set to experience thriller and drama in the Indian cinema!
So first let’s delve into the Hindi Cinema:
EMERGENCY:
Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is a Hindi-language drama starring herself as a lead character in the movie, while playing the character of Late Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie was releasing in September 2024 but due to controversies surrounding movie, there were several legal battles which delayed the release of the movie. The movie will be finally hitting the big screens on 17th January 2024. The movie also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade in lead characters of Jay Prakash Narayan and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
LAHORE 1947:
Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947 is upcoming period action film which is set in the context of the partition which happened between India and Pakistan in the year 1947. This film stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta as the lead characters. Whereas AR Rahman has composed the music of this film. This movie is based on Asghar Wajahat’s play: ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’ which can be translated as ‘One who has not seen Lahore has not been born’. The movie was scheduled to release on 26th January but has been postponed to June 2025 due to some work left in the post-production part.
JAAT:
Gopichand Malineni who is a Telgu film-maker is making his debut in Hindi cinema with his movie ‘Jaat’ starring Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Suniel Shetty and Armaan Kohli. The movie will be hitting the big screen in April 2025.
Sky Force:
Abhisekh Anil Kapur’s Sky Force is a historical war film starring Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahariya who is making his acting debut, the movie also stars Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan. This movie is based on the India-Pakistan 1965 war, referring to India’s befitting retaliatory attack on the Sargodha airbase which is in Pakistan. This has been described as India’s first as well as deadliest air-strike in the history. Intiially, the movie was releasing in October 2024 but now will be releasing on 26th January 2025 on the eve of Republic Day.
Chhaava:
Laskhman Utekar’s Chaava is a historical action movie which is based on the Maratha King Chhtrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This movie stars Vicky Kaushal who plays the role of the Maratha King himself. This movie is adaption of Shivaji Sawant’s novel- Chaava. This movie also stars Akshaye Khana who plays the role of Auranganzeb while Rashmika Madana will be playing role of Yeshubai Bhonsale. The movie will be hitting the big screens on 14th February 2025.
The teaser of Chhaava has been released recently and one could see the efforts which were put in by Vicky Kaushal to fit into the role.
Sikander:
AR Murugadoss one of the famous directors is back with yet another movie ‘Sikander’ starring Salman Khan who will be playing the double role in the movie. This movie also stars Kajal Aggrawal, Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi and Prateik Babbar. This movie is scheduled to be released on 30th March 2025 which coincides with Eid al-Fitr.
Houseful 5:
The Houseful movie is back again and now with its 5th sequel. Tarun Mansukhani’s Houseful cast has the same cast starring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ritesh Deshmukh now also includes Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Nargis Fakri and Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey and there are many others. This film will be releasing in June 2025
War 2:
YRF Spy universe is back with the sequel of War which was released in the year 2019. Hrithik Roshan is set to make a comeback to the Big screen while NTR also joining him in the lead. Ayan Mukherjee’s War 2 will be hitting the big screen in April 2025.
Alpha:
Alia Bhatt the Bollywood super-star will be back in Alpha after receiving different responses for her role in Jigra. She will be starring with Sharvari Wagh. Like War 2, even Alpha is also part of YRF spy-universe. Shiv Rawali has directed the film and will be released in December 2025
Metro…In Dino:
If one recalls, Anurag Basu’s Life in a Metro which had focused on the life of many couples in city of Mumbai. The movie focused on several themes such as healing, deceit and love. Now Anurag Basu is back with anthology in Dino…featuring stories of 4 couples. This movie stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Anupam Kher, Nina Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Sheikh. The film’s release date has been postponed twice but however, the release date is expected soon.
Tamil Cinema:
Thug Life:
Mani Ratnam is back with yet another film, ‘Thug Life’ which is a Tamil language film which stars Kamal Hassan. This makes it historic because the duo is reuniting after a long period of 38 years after Nayagan. This is a gangster genre film which including a stellar line-up of several actors which includes Silambarasan. What makes it more interesting is that AR Rahman and Kamal Hassan are working for the first time since Thenali which was released in 2000. An indeed interesting combination. The film will be releasing on 5th June 2025
Thalapathy 69:
This movie would be the last movie of the Tamil Super-star Vijay. H Vinoth’s movie will be celebrating and appreciating of great superstar who will be quitting on his own terms, this will be the peak of his career in the film industry, this would be intense. Get ready to witness one of the historic movies which will be releasing in October 2025
