Is the news really true? Yes! Bollywood super-star Shahid Kapoor is set to make a big-comeback with his movie Deva this January. The highly-awaited teaser was unveiled by the Zee-studios and Roy Kapoor Films which has Kapoor which aims to be promising and intense. The movie is set to hit the big screens on 31st January 2025.
The Intense Teaser:
Deva’s teaser which is 52 seconds has no dialogues but has series of intense scenes which would keep the audience hooked till the very end. The teaser starts with Shahid in white shirt and the uniform pant while the gun being in pocket, he dances and grooves even as the audience there cheers him on and on. Even as the teaser progresses, the audiences can see stark comparison in him, one can see him as a cop who won’t stop at any point to bring conclusion to cases and won’t even hesitate to apply unconventional methods.
As said, the teaser creates a versus of him, presenting him in two different scenarios, the one where he dances with his gun in pocket while the other being his side as a ruthless cop. As the teaser reaches its conclusion, it pays tribute to the Bollywood Sheenah Amitabh Bachchan. The 52-second trailer has created a mystery around the character.
About the Movie:
Now, coming to the film, it is a Hindi-language movie which is directed by Roshan Andrews and has been written by the duo Bobby-Sanjay. Shahid Kapoor, Pooja Hegde, Pavali Gulati are some of the key stars in the film. The official announcement of the film was made in May 2023; the principal photography began in October 2023 while the film was wrapped up by September 2024. Vishal Mishra has provided the music score. This is Roshan Andrew’s debut in the Hindi cinema.
Roshan Andrew’s Deva stars
If we talk about the build-up, In November 2022, Roshan Andrews who’s the maker of the film took it to social media that he would direct Shahid Kapoor in his upcoming film. The film has been produced by Siddharth Roy Kapoor’s ‘Roy Kapur’ films and Zee studios and the official announcement was made by them in May 2023. However, the title ‘Deva’ was unveiled on 24th October 2023 which was on the festival of Dusshera.
If we talk about the pre-production started on 16th November 2022 and it had taken several months for writing and pre-production. The duo Bobby-Sanjay have scripted the movie in 9th collaboration with Andrews.
Shahid Kapoor is the lead character in the movie and has sported the short-hairtstyle for the character which has similarity to the character he played in Haider. Pooja Hegde is the lead actress of the movie while Kubbaira Sait joined the movie as female cop in the movie in Early-November 2023, while Pavali Gulati also joined the cast in later part of the month, he had felt that his role demanded physical and mental dedication so he joined workshop in January 2024 to prepare for the intense movie.
The film was shot and filmed in several parts of the city of Mumbai.
Shahid calls Deva is piece of heart:
Shahid Kapoor who’s playing the role of Dev, an action packed thriller movie said that it the movie is the piece of his heart. He also went on to said that how people urged him to do a ‘massy’ film which one should do for the masses. And so for him, that was the next step in the journey and also he described as the challenging one.
The actor didn’t divulge more into the character as he didn’t want to reveal much more about it. Kapoor has performed various roles in movies like Haider, Jab We met, Kabir Singh, Jersey told during the event that ‘Deva’ borrows its essence from Mumbai.
He also went on to said that the film was shot in Mumbai and how Deva’s madness is the madness of Mumbai. The character ‘Dev’ has extra ‘A’ emphasizing how there are two types of animals in everyone. While there is Dev and Asur in everyone. He also emphasized on how film is about two different personalities in one character while drawing a parallel to Mumbai, while describing it as beautiful and edgy too and it is what makes it special.
Shahid’s mega comeback:
Shahid Kapoor is set to make a mega comeback on the Big-screens. He is known for varied performances, be it in Jab We Met where he played the role of Aditya, a shy man who was lost in life ends up finding one. In Padmavat where he plays role of Raja Ratansingh which demanded presence and command. While in Haider where he plays the role of a student. In Kabir Singh where he plays the role of possessive lover or film ‘Bloody Daddy. While in he plays role of NCB officer and ends up himself in a desperate situation, And in series ‘Farzi’ where he plays the role of a person who indulges in making fake currency.
Wit Deva hitting the big screens on 31st January 2025, the teaser aims to create a mega build-up with intense fight scenes, chasing and dance which has caused a major build-up to its release.
About the maker:
Rosshan Andrews who’s the maker of the film has mainly worked in Malayam film industry and has made movies like ‘Salute’ and ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ while speaking during an event said that his dream of making the hindi film like Deva has come true after Kapoor had agreed to it.
He said to complete his dream he needed a producer who would have supported him who was Siddharth Roy Kapoor and the Zee Studios and which happened of ‘Yes’ of a one person which is his brother Shahid Kapoor and he is giving the film to him and it is his.
Siddharth Roy Kapoor described Rosshan Andrews as a passionate artist and said that he, Shahid, Umesh Bansal have served the vison of Andrews. He also said that it’s his (Andrew’s) birthday, Roy expressed gratitude for giving this gift.
